And keeping on with the trend, here we have another adaptation from a classic book.

This time around it’s Jonathan Swift’s magnum opus “Gulliver’s Travels”.

In it we’ll meet Jack Black in the lead as Travel writer Lemuel Gulliver, who takes an assignment in Bermuda, but ends up on the island of Lilliput, where he winds up as a giant, in comparison with its tiny citizens.
Starring next to Black, we’ll find Amanda Peet as Black's editor (and love interest) who follows him after he doesn't return from an assignment, and a very royal cast of actors portraying the Lilliput’s ruling family. Namely Emily Blunt as the princess of Lilliput, Bill Connolly as the king, , Catherine Tate as his wife. And for what we hear, Emily’s love interest is gonna be no other than Jason Segel.

So, what do we have here?

An impressive comical cast, stunning locations (it seems they’re filming in Oxforshire and using Blenheim Palace, Sir Winston Churchill's home, as the royal castle of Lilliput), and quite the budget.
All in all we’re looking at a movie with a lot of potential.
The release ain’t due until the 22 of December, so let’s see how the ever-changing looking glass that Hollywood has become shapes up this 2010.

And let’s take a quick look at that. It seems that with every single book, comic, videogame, toy, plushy doll or Disney attraction (yes, I’m looking at you, Pirates of the Caribbean) getting a movie of their own, it looks like the land of dreams and big screens is turning its attention on the good olde classics.

We’ve already been impressed by their re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes and moved by that trip down our childhood memories to that place Where the Wild Things Are.
Could they do the same with Jonathan Swift’s novel?

Some argue that the satire of a Victorian era Europe centered around the court of George I, King of England is a gargantuan task of an adaptation and not to be taking lightly in this its first big screen, big budgeted adaptation, and let’s be honest, it’s gonna be a tough ship for it’s director Rob Letterman, to steer into safe port.

Me?

They’ve got me sold.
